Five Minute Friday - Unexpected

Another Friday, another chance to pour out my heart without worrying how it's going to sound, without editing it into a safe post that guards my soul.

From Gypsy Mama,

"For only five short, bold, beautiful minutes. Unscripted and unedited. We just writewithout worrying if it’s just right or not."

Today's topic:  Unexpected.  Ready?

GO

We were told his first teacher, the one in Japan, was ill.  He disappeared into his art supplies and emerged a few minutes later with a hand drawn card and note tell her how sorry he was that she was sick.  A picture of him and her underneath a sakura tree.  So sweet, so unexpected.

I walked into the house to find a "report" on cars, boats, and airplanes that he wrote from memory because he wanted to make me proud of him.  Such a mature understanding of his world.  So unexpected.

As I sat reading she came and gave me a kiss on the cheek.  She initiated the love, she chose me.  She said lalu, mama.  So perceptive, so unexpected.

How is it that they know so well how the world works?  How can they pour out this kind of love in this kind of way?  Do they see it in me?  I hope so.  I pray so.

Please, please always surprise me like this.  I hope to always expect [the unexpected].

STOP
[words in brackets added after time was up]

I write about my kids a lot, I think.  Well, it's what I know.  Be sure to head over to Gypsy Mama and join in the fun.  There are lots of other posts to read as well...it's neat to see all the different perspectives given just one word as a prompt.  Happy Friday, everyone.
